The Maryland Poison Center, a division of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, offers a two year fellowship in Clinical Toxicology. The goal of the fellowship is to train a Doctor of Pharmacy graduate to function in a professional, administrative and research capacity in a regional poison center, clinical toxicology service and/or academic environment. Major activities in the first year of the fellowship include service, teaching and management wihle a major component of the second year is research. The primary faculty for the fellowship include Wendy Klein-Schwartz, Pharm.D., M.P.H. and Bruce Anderson, Pharm.D., ABAT.
The Maryland Poison Center is a regional poison center certified by the American Association of Poison Control Centers. In 2005, the Maryland Poison Center received over 68,000 calls. The poison center serves as an educational site for pharmacy students and emergency medicine residents. Faculty in the poison center have been actively involved in toxicological research, primarily in the areas of poisoning epidemiology and poisoning management.
Applicants must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an accredited School of College of Pharmacy. The current position began July 1, 2006. We will be recruiting in 2007 for a fellowship that begins July 1, 2008.
